About
When I was seven years old I drew a horse. Its head looked alright - I guess, but the body looked more like a chubby cat. I received five dollars for it from a sympathetic relative.
My first commission!
Of course I had no talent for drawing, however, the act of creating something or being an artist was the one constant force that drove me since I was a kid. Soon learning how to play instruments, writing poems, lyrics and songs took over a very large slice of my creative life.

I was truly privileged to go to a high school named after the great Canadian painter and illustrator CW Jeffreys. There I was exposed to a variety of disciplines including graphic design, life drawing, oil painting, sculpture and pottery. Art school was like coming home to where I belonged. Not long afterward I studied Graphic Design and manufacturing, which was really only a catalyst for me to explore carpentry in depth on a commercial level.
Today one end of my home is an art studio, the other end a music studio. During the course of a day I'll go back and forth from one studio to the other. Making snap decisions keeps it fresh. I find it makes good use of the vigor that is attainable only by doing things in short blasts. It gives me the propulsion required to feel productive and victorious in both areas.

I feel like it took a long time and hard work to get even remotely skilled. Now I'm convinced of the idea that everyone can and should find their own form of creative expression, and make art. Maybe your personal chubby cat can develop into something wonderful to enjoy, and to share. So if you're thinking about it, simply start - make art!
